SUPPORT FOR VETERANS OVER EASTER BREAK

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale, today wished Australia’s veterans, war widows and their families a happy Easter break.

“The Department of Veterans’ Affairs will be closed over the Easter period from Friday 9 April, reopening on Tuesday 13 April. However, many key services will continue to be available during this period through after-hours arrangements, including transport and hospital admissions,” Mrs Vale said.

“For transport eligible veterans can pay up front and claim reimbursements from DVA at a later date.

“Hospitals can still admit DVA patients over the Easter period and request admissions approval when DVA reopens.

“Any veteran, war widow or their family who needs support during this time is encouraged to contact the Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service, which offers 24-hour crisis counselling through its after hours Veterans Line.”

VVCS services are available to veterans of all conflicts and their families, including members of peacekeeping missions, through the national toll free 24-hours Veterans Line number – 1800 011 046.

“Defence Service Homes Insurance is also available over Easter for policy and claim inquiries on their 24-hour number 1300 552 662. If veterans or war widows wish to make a premium payment with DSHI over Easter they can call 1300 304 989 or visit the website www.dsh.gov.au,” Mrs Vale said.

“Once again I wish all veterans, war widows and their families a happy and safe Easter.”
