ANC - SUNSHINE COAST FLOTILLA - CEREMONIAL SUNSET - HMAS BRISBANE MEMORIAL - ALEXANDRA HEADLAND - 10 OCTOBER 2009

 

The Sunshine Coast Flotilla of the Australian Naval Cadets held a ceremonial sunset at the magnificent HMAS BRISBANE Memorial at Alexandra Headland on Saturday, 10 October, 2009.

 

Commander Frank Dixon MBE NRC (Ret'd) addressed the cadets along with his son-in-law Senator Mark Furner.  Guests included the CO SE QLD - CMDR Geof Fiedler ADC RAN, Mark McArdle, MP, Councillor Chris Thompson from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Les & Lynda Dwyer, National President NAA and Graham Savage, State Vice President, QLD together with many proud parents and friends of the assembled Naval Cadets.

 

LCDR Warren Blee the Flotilla Commander and LCDR Robin Houston Assisting Flotilla Commander together with the Commanding Officers of the various Training Ships and a large number of cadets paraded.

 

Talks were provided with Commander Dixon speaking about the history of the cadets and his recollection of a young Warren Blee as a cadet.

 

One of the outstanding naval cadets from TS Centaur, Jaqui was asked to speak and gave a creditable talk to her peers.   Jacqui's career highlights are below:-

 

Jaqui joined TS Centaur in February 2006. She was promoted to Seaman on 24/11/06 , Able Seaman on 07/07/07, Leading Seaman on 18/06/08 and Petty Officer on 30/09/09.

 

Jaqui completed her CWS course at TS Bundaberg in September 07 and at TS Walrus in September 2008. She has Senior First Aid and has just completed an 11 day sail on Young Endeavour.   She completed her Bronze Duke of Edinbugh on 22/06/09. She has started on her Silver. Jaqui was accepted to go on the OHS week but was unable to attend owing to her being selected to go to sea in the Young Endeavour.   She attends all Unit Activities and Parades is a keen sailor and has GISBS 1 and is currently completing GISBS 2.    Her goals are to meet new people and go new places, develop her leadership skills, be a competent and confident sailor and have fun.

 

Jaqui has received the following unit awards:

 

Jaqui would like to go into the Military once she has completed year 12.
