NATIONAL ANZAC DAY CEREMONY 2009 - AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL CANBERRA - 25 APRIL 2009
Cold squalls of rain fell on the crowd at the ANZAC Day Parade and ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in 2009.
That did not stop the many veterans and Naval Association ACT Section turning out in force on the day. In a first for the Writer's Association
they marched as a group for what is believed to be the first occasion in Canberra since formation of the association. It was good to see
such a good turn-out. The HMAS SYDNEY Association, RANCBA, WRANS, ANC, serving personnel were very well represented.
Our Patron, the Governor General and Michael Bryce attended with HE delivering the address.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his wife attended along with the representatives or Chiefs of the individual Services.
RADM Ian Crawford represented the Australian Veterans and Defence Services Council and together with NAA National President Les Dwyer and RAAF Association National
President AVM Roxley McLennan Rtd they laid wreaths on behalf of the Ex-Services organisations they represent.
It was good to see an old sailor in the shape of Bill Kane, the National Secretary of the TPI Federation attending and laying a wreath with Audrey Blood, President of the War
Widow's Guild.
