NATIONAL EXECUTIVE MEETING ANGELSEA BARRACKS, HOBART, TASMANIA - SATURDAY 3 FEBRUARY 2007

The National Executive held its meeting at Naval Headquarters, Angelsea Barracks, Hobart on Saturday 3 February.

Thanks to the SNO TAS, CMDR Mark Burling for facilitating this visit and for arranging for appropriate facilities to be made available to conduct the meeting.  Sincere thanks go to SBLT Christian Pieters and MIDN Steve Flett who 'looked after' us during our stay and helped make the meeting process and the arrangements in Angelsea Barracks flow smoothly.

Much was discussed during our visit and we had the opportunity to oversight much of what Hobart has to offer when the Tasmanian State Section hosts the next Triennial conference in 2008.

The Hobart Sub Section hosted a Meet and Greet on the Friday evening, thank you to all the members for your hospitality and particularly to Sub Section President Klaus Strecker and Navy Club President and Sub Section Treasurer Eric Morgan. Sub Section Vice President Barry Aherne's rendition of the Naval Ode was superb on the evening and our stalwart President of the WRANS Sub Section and Meritorious Medal Holder Joan Watchorn did a marvellous job with help from the ladies of the Sub Section providing the superb supper.  It was good to see members that we had not seen for some time.

We took advantage of our stay to visit Port Arthur and took several trips to sea in Lady Nelson out of Hobart and a catamarn out of Port Arthur.  We explored the 'Convict Trail' and the 'Huon Trail' taking in the Tahune Air Walk and various interesting places along the way.

With so much fresh seafood offering we were just about 'fished out' by the time we left Hobart.  Fortunately the meal at the Casino that Scotty organised was a non-seafood buffet, so we had a rest from fish for an evening.

Thanks to Derek Tite and Helen Tite the Tasmanian State President and Scotty McNeill and Loretta for the arrangements you made.

Everything is still apples in Tasmania...as the photo of Les shows him at one of the apple orchards scattered across the region.  With the Wooden Boat Festival on this week and Navy Week and the Regatta....it is an exciting time in Hobart.

Come along and join the Hobart Sub Section and the Hobart Navy Club...you will enjoy the company of many familiar shipmates.

Hope you enjoy the photos below....click on them to enlarge.
