                      NAVAL ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN SECTION

OFFICIAL OPENING STATE OFFICE

16October 2005 

Approximately 150 members of the Ex Service and the Naval Community, from as far South as Albany and North from Hillary’s, attended the Official Opening of the new State Section Office in Rockingham. 

Vice President Gavin Ryan was the MC for the Official part of the afternoon and the Rockingham Sub Section President Mr Peter O’Donohue read the Naval Ode.

 State President Mal Hughes gave a short speech thanking those who have made contributions to the Naval Association in Western Australia and to also announce the launch of the Western Australian Pension and Welfare section, then Chaplain John Marshall RAN HMAS Stirling gave the blessing.

Commander Paul Bartlett RAN the Commanding Officer of HMAS Stirling, unveiled the plaque and declared the Western Australian State Office officially open.

State President Mal Hughes awarded certificates of Appreciation to shipmates of the Naval Association WA.

Those shipmates who received awards were; Mr Wolf Zillisen for his tireless efforts in looking after the Museum at East Perth, Mr Peter Woodward and Mr Mike Jones, who assisted Wolf and also looked after the State Office. The other award went to Shipmate Ray Whitfield for his contribution to the Naval Memorial Park in Rockingham.

With the Official proceedings over, it was then left to the President Mal Hughes to Splice the Main brace.

Representative from Men’s Peer Health, Defence Credit, Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service, Artist Darrell White ex RAN with his Ships prints for sale and a band were just some of the other attractions which made the afternoon such a success

The cadets from TS ANZAC helped serve meals and then delighted those present with an outstanding drill display, which was extremely well received by one and all.
