ASBESTOS - THE CHILLING REALITY - DID YOU EVER SERVE IN RAAF POINT COOK (WILLIAMS)?  PLENTY OF OUR LINGUISTS AND AIRCREW TRAINEES DID....

So did I, so on Sunday 12 August 2007 I decided to take a trip to RAAF Point Cook to see what it looked like today.  I was shocked to find that the Sergeant's Mess that I lived in while undergoing language training in Point Cook was deserted, bolted and barred and surrounded by fencing to keep out any intruder.  The ominous RED warning signs on the outsides of the buildings said it all.  Please see the photographs below.  I had a look at the room I used to occupy on the second floor of one of the condemned buildings...I was horrified.  It seems that we not only had to put up with asbestos in all the ships in which we served but here was more evidence that we have been exposed to this insidious cancer-producing product in other places as well.

I have posted these photos in order to remind people who may have been exposed that they have got the ability to make a claim should they be suffering from any effects of exposure.   Should anybody wish to have the full-sized originals of these photographs please let me know.

My little trip down memory lane was just another rude reminder of the perils that sailors faced even when they were away from the sea and ships!
