CALL ON THE PATRON OF THE SOUTH AUSTRALIA SECTION OF THE NAVAL ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA -
BY NATIONAL PRESIDENT, LES DWYER AND SA SECTION PRESIDENT DAVID KERR - 22 APRIL 2010
The National President had a flying visit to Adelaide on Thursday, 22nd April to undertake an annual inspection of Gulf War Serum, held securely at an appropriate facility in Adelaide.
SA Section President, David Kerr collected Les from Adelaide airport when they drove to the Outer Harbour to see HMAS ARUNTA arrive for a brief visit to Adelaide.
Following this a visit to the Techport facility, including a look at industry undertaking much work for the Navy in Adelaide, such as the Australian Submarine Corporation, and others. The development of this facility is amazing to view.
We then headed to Port Adelaide Sub Section as I wanted to say hello to any of the members who might have been present and also have a look at the recent building and other progress made around the local area. Paul Elliott made us welcome and it was obvious that the members were enjoying their familiar surroundings and individual camaraderie amongst themselves at the bar.
Lunch at the Bombay Bicycle Club was truly enjoyable. If you get an opportunity to visit this establishment you will be surprised by the decore.
Following lunch it was off to inspect the Gulf War Serum and then a call on the Governor of South Australia, who many of you will know was and remains a member of Adelaide Sub Section, RADM Kevin Scarce, AC, RANR. Several important issues were discussed with the Governor including the potential for a social event at Government House in October, hosted by our Patron. I am sure that David Kerr will advise the arrangements in due course.
Then it was off to the airport for the long flight home to the Sunshine Coast. A long day with an early start at 0445 meant I was very tired by the time I arrived home at midnight!
Thanks to David Kerr and the other people who provided me hospitality whilst visiting Adelaide on short notice.
I was sent the following clipping from the Adelaide Advertiser this morning and provide a couple of photographs taken with Shipmate Scarce on the day.
