SUBMARINES ASSOCIATION AUSTRALIA (QLD) INC - AGM and DINNER - Kedron Wavell Community Centre - 1 August 2009

Barry McKeown passed the baton to Don (Duck Run) Currell at a fantastic dinner dance held at the Kedron Wavell Community Centre on Saturday, 1st August, 2009.

Submariners are renowned for their high spirits and esprit de corps. This was evident on the night when a large number of members and their wives / partners took off a popular American group, dancing and singing for all to enjoy. They rebranded themselves as the "Village Idiots" and I must say that their rendition of 'In the Navy' and 'YMCA' was performed as well as any other version I have witnessed. Some of the performers were unrecognisable and did a great job. Jan Woolrych could get a job on any street corner the way she was dressed - and nobody would recognise her! 'Duck Run' was promoted to Rear Admiral on the night and had many transformations and uniform changes playing the part of an AB (in his original navy issue uniform) and then as a RADM .... reverting to Chief in time to rejoin the throng... I did not know that Ken Chilvers had such a hairy chest!

Tables were adorned with beautiful roses, vibrant pinks, delicate yellows, blood red and many other hues... it was good to see the ladies taking them with them when they finally went home - most well after midnight.

Thanks to the organising committee - for the delectable meal, wonderful company and fantastic humour, a great night was had by all.
