1st Info Bulletin ……………….IT is happening here in Townsville , the next
“End of an Era” R.A.N Steam Reunion2
5th – 8th September 2008
So far the committee has been organised and getting on with their individual jobs.
There are many options available at the moment and it depends on numbers as to venues and functions.
The Townsville & Thuringowa City Councils and the Tourist Bureau are well and truly working with us and so are a lot of other organisations. At the moment some of the ideas are a Meet & Greet on the Friday Night followed by a pretty relaxed sort of programme but with plenty of organised things to do like Golf, Bowls, a Fashion Show for the girls, and we are looking at a BBQ cruise around Magnetic Island (Fishing Trips, Barrier Reef trips, Wildlife Sanctuary trips etc. are also available, check out the links on the Web Page when it’s up and running or we will send info on them). These will take place over the Saturday and Sunday and we will be also having plenty of information on other things to do here in the Tropics. If we do not organise something you wish to do here in Paradise during the reunion weekend you are more than welcome to stay in Paradise for a while and enjoy the many other opportunities that exist here to enjoy yourself.
On the Saturday night we are planning a dinner and entertainment, with the numbers attending according to the feed back from Mildura, we might have to go the same way as them, and have to restrict the numbers, so, first come, first served routine.
On the Monday we will have a farewell function and wrap up. We are still in the early planning stages so nothing is set in concrete yet, but as things get closer we will be keeping everyone up to date with what is happening
We hope to have a Web Page up and running in the near future (early next year) and this will enable interested parties to register on line and get all the information they need for their trip. This will also enable those who wish to arrive early and stay later to check out the many things to do here in Townsville.
Townsville has many things to offer and for those who saw this town in the 60’s,70’s or when ever, it has really boomed, or having not been here at all, it is a Tropical Paradise (better than Cairns), it has everything to offer like shopping, markets, beaches, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs, top class accommodation, Cinemas, Sporting Facilities, Barrier Reef trips, Fishing & Diving charters (one of the best wreck dive sites in the world), Wildlife Parks and most famous of them all, Magnetic Island. From Townsville you can venture North to Mission Beach, Cairns, The Atherton Tablelands, or Cape York. If you wish you can go West to Charters Towers, Mt Isa, and in between, or to Darwin. It is then South to Mackay and the Whitsunday Islands, so Townsville is really the centre of Paradise.
For those who are intending to caravan it here, there are some top class Caravan Parks and they are not too far from all the places of interest.
We are also going the same way as Mildura, Money up front, we will require a substantial deposit of $120.00 per head (we have not been able to do any definite costing yet) ASAP, and final payment is to be made 12 months prior.
This is due to the large venues requiring a Deposit at a minimum of 12 months in advance and an idea of numbers attending.
Similarly, accommodation bookings are required at least 12 months in advance because of the popularity of the area for sporting, recreational and conference events.
The weather up here in September is very hard to take, so make sure you have Shorts, T Shirts and thongs as the overnight temp averages around 15 degrees and the day time temp is around 26 degrees. Plenty of sunscreen, sunnies and hats are a big must.
For those who have already indicated that they are attending we will send your Registration forms as soon as we have definite costings and programme
For those wishing to get in advance we will readily accept your money whether it be Cheque or Money order and can be made payable to
