Some RANEL Memorabilia:
Refraction Slide Rule
Used in the early days for computing ray paths for the purpose of Sonar range prediction. First brought to Australia by ADML Ian Knox RAN (Retired) when he came across it during a visit to the USA related to his role in the IKARA Project. Later as a TAS Officer, he liaised with RANEL which then used it from the mid 1960s in conjunction with new bathythermograph data being received from the Hydrographer.

Divers Acoustic Monitor
Designed to measure the radiated noise from divers’ breathing apparatus during training thus enabling faults in the apparatus to be identified and rectified.

UFO (Unidentified Found Object)
Found off Eastern Australia over 40 years ago, but to this day is still unidentified (possibly some kind of wave meter). Do you know what this is?
