NOTICES:-

A Short Update for the VICTORIA STATE SECTION – March 2010

From the Secretary’s point of view, the State Section had a good year. We made a small profit and continued to function financially in a positive manner. It is pleasing to be able to plan for each year’s key events with the confidence that we are able to pay our way.

The December State Council Meeting was followed by a small social gathering and a light supper. All Councillors enjoyed themselves and entered into the Christmas spirit. The catering was provided by State Vice President and old friend, Mary Tanner, who was assisted by her close friend. They did a great job from everyone’s perspective.

In early February ( 7 Feb.2010 ) , we held our annual State Conference at the Frankston Naval Memorial Club in Langwarrin South. It was hosted by the Frankston Sub Section and our National President attended with his gracious wife, Lynda. From all reports, we understand that they enjoyed themselves during their short stay in the Sporting Capital of Australia.

The Conference went very smoothly, with 2 Guest Speakers – Mr Mike O’Meara – Deputy Commissioner of Veteran Affairs for Victoria, and Mr Leo Deyong of Defence Science and Technology ( DSTO ). These gentlemen gave us very interesting reports on the latest work of DVA and then the findings of the Enquiry into the sinking of HMAS SYDNEY(2) respectively. They kept the meeting very interested and we all felt well informed after both presentations.

Any all day function requires a degree of organisation, including the provision of food. The SCRAN was provided through the expert efforts of Frankston member Mark Kinder ( Cook, Bartender and Chief Bottle Washer). Thanks to Mark for his big effort.

The new Executive for 2010 elected at the Conference are :

President                     Russell Pettis

Vice President             Harry Kime

Vice President             Lee (DutchY) Andrews

Vice President             Mary tanner

Secretary/Treasurer     Graham Don

National Delegate       Russell Pettis               Deputy  Graham Don

With this framework in place, we can move forward with our three major challenges for 2010.

1.      Build the Membership base with new members.

2.      Work closely with DVA and other ESO’s to get the best welfare outcomes for our members.

3.      Lift the profile of the Naval Family in the Australian Community.

If we can accomplish these challenges in 2010, we will have created a strong base to move forward in the next decade.
