"At the Parish Church of Saint Peter in Southport, the HMAS Canberra/Shropshire Association have held a service at the Church every year for the past 18 years this years was to be their last the following was in the programme:

"The passage of the years means that the HMAS Canberra - HMAS Shropshire Association will pass into history.

To honour its closure the Association chose to sing the hymn "The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended" today which is featured in the traditional Naval Sunset Ceremony. We look forward to the next generation of Navy men and cadets organising the next Naval Commemoration. Thank You. - David Mattiske.".
