c/- Sub Section Secretary
Darling Downs Sub Section is a vibrant group of about 70 members that meets at the Toowoomba RSL Sub Branch every fourth Sunday at 1100.
Our area of operations covers the Darling Downs, Lockyer Valley and the Granite Belt to the NSW border.
We subscribe to a policy of "Having Fun" and keeping our shipmates posted about our ongoing activities.
On Friday April 20th at 1100 the Sub-Section will once again be commemorating the service and sacrifice of all Naval men and women who have fallen in times of conflict and at other times. The service run in conjunction with senior students from Toowoomba State High School will be the fifth occasion the school has hosted the Sub-Section at the service and afterwards for luncheon at the school’s campus.
The service this year will have as its theme “Submarines and submariners of the RAN”.
The service is to be held at the Naval Memorial Anchor in Mothers’ Memorial Gardens, Margaret Street, Toowoomba. All ex-sailors and members of the public are urged to attend on this the first of a series of services held in Toowoomba in the lead up to ANZAC Day”
Copies of our Sub Section book 'Making Waves' chronicling their lives in Pussers and subsequently, of some 35 of our members is for sale. The book retails at $20 plus postage, and was a joint project between ourselves and students from Toowoomba State High School. Assistance in the preparation of the book was given by the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Contact the Secretary for a copy... it is a great read covering our oldest member who was born in 1919 and taking you through to the feats of a rawbone born in 1960. Shipmates will see that it covers a wide and disparate range of years and occupations that makes it all the more readable and interesting. Buy a copy now.
Visitors are welcome to attend our meetings. Come and mix with some old oppos.
Meetings are held at the RSL, Ruthven Street....
